After what feels like an endless season of winter, we’re finally reaching the warmer months — and it feels like hope. I’m ready to soak up all the long days outside, farmers market finds, and books that I can get my hands on. And if you, like me, are also looking for a new source of inspiration in the kitchen, I have just the thing: Follow along with Kitchn’s Cookbook Club the next few months! We’ve got an incredible lineup of cookbooks for June, July, and August that are guaranteed to delight and nourish. Read on to see what cookbooks we chose and why.

Our June Cookbook Pick: Vietnamese Food Any Day by Andrea Nguyen

As we head into summer, I thought Andrea Nguyen’s Vietnamese Food Any Day would be the perfect cookbook to celebrate. The 2019 book promises “simple recipes for true, fresh flavor,” and it really delivers. It’s great for both beginner and advanced cooks who are looking for incredible Vietnamese recipes that don’t take hours to make. Nguyen is an accomplished author and chef, and is thoughtful and supportive in her writing. I want to eat every single thing I’ve looked at!

Recipes to look forward to: Charred Cabbage with Coconut; No-Churn Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream; Honey-Glazed Pork Ribblets

Our July Cookbook Pick: Six Seasons by Joshua McFadden

This award-winning cookbook only came out in 2017, but it feels like it’s been around much longer given its impact on vegetable cookery. Joshua McFadden, a restaurant owner in Oregon, is your “vegetable whisperer.” He splits his cookbook into — surprise, surprise — six seasons: Spring, Early Summer, Midsummer, Late Summer, Fall, and Winter. Each section is broken out into specific ingredient chapters, and there are a total of 226 recipes — which is just a lot of inspiration for peak vegetable season (July!). It’s a farmers market must-have.

Recipes to look forward to: Cauliflower Steak with Provolone and Pickled Peppers; Roasted String Beans and Scallions with Pine Nut Vinaigrette; Celery Salad with Dates, Almonds, and Parmesan.

Our August Cookbook Pick: The Arabesque Table by Reem Kassis

Nik Sharma, the author of our February Cookbook Club pick, said The Arabesque Table was “one of the most special and exciting new cookbooks that [he’s] read this year.” So I immediately knew I had to check it out — and to no one’s surprise, Nik was right. The cookbook just came out in April, but it’s already received high praise. This is author Reem Kassis’ second cookbook; her first, The Palestinian Table, came out in 2017. In The Arabesque Table, she goes deep on the history and evolution of Arab cuisine, resulting in 130 modern recipes.

Recipes to look forward to: Tomato Salad with Labaneh and Za’atar; Herb, Garlic, and Chili Stuffed Chicken Thighs; Date and Cardamom Coffee Tiramisu.
